Electric potential is alternative way of studying electrical phenomena for static charges. Electric potential uses energy rather than force to study dynamics of a charge in the presence of static charges. This provides considerable simplification since electric potential is a scalar while electric field was a vector. That means, we only need only one real number at each space point rather than a vector.
