Chapter 24 First Law of Thermodynamics
First law of thermodynamics deals with energy conservation when the system under study interacts with other objects in the environment. There is obviously through heat exchange between two systems at different temperatures. Force between objects also causes energy to flow between systems. The flow of energy attributable to force is called work. When we account for all energy entering leaving the system under study, the result gives us the change in energy of the system. This statement is called the first law of thermodynamics. We will apply forst law to a few problems to get a feel for how to use the law in practical settings.
